Our Team
	Dentistry provided in a warm and caring environment is what you will find at the office of Dr. Karen O’Rourke. The patients in the practice cover a wide age range; from infants to seniors. In practice for 21 years, Dr. O’Rourke has a broad range of experiences you will value as a patient. She has avidly pursued continuing education, bringing a preventive orthodontic exerciser to her patients from Australia for children as young as three. The orthodontic treatment she provides is based on appliances developed in England. The benefit of this particular treatment is that it strives to correct the cause of the problem, not just straighten teeth. For adults, she has pursued education in cosmetic dentistry, full reconstruction, and implants to replace missing teeth.
Dr. O’Rourke graduated from the University of Michigan and then completed an optional one year General Practice Residency at the U of M hospital. This residency training took her through the eight dental specialties as well as rotations through the hospital. Emphasis was placed on treating medically compromised patients, oral cancer patients, and patients requiring dentistry under general anesthesia. She taught for a number of years in the hygiene program at GRCC and is involved in a number of community and professional organizations. Dr. O’Rourke is on staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Center. In addition, she is a Fellow of the American Association of Hospital Dentists and a member of the American Dental Association. Thankful for the gifts she has received, Dr. O’Rourke gives back to the community by volunteering at Clinica Santa Maria, the Adult Dental Services Program, and the Donated Dental Services Program of Michigan.

Jan Kingsley – our administrative coordinator is a life long resident of West Michigan. She is a degreed graduate of GRCC Dental Assisting Program and has also attended GVSU and Davenport for classes. She has worked in the dental field for nearly 31 years with extensive experience in orthodontics- having worked in each area of the practice including chair-side assisting, lab technician, and administrative. She is very capable to assist you with your questions.

She has served in the Grand Rapids Dental Assistant Society as Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice-President. She enjoys tennis, skiing, family gatherings, and reading.

Robin Schumaker – has been a dental assistant for 17 years and and has been with Dr. O’Rourke since the year 2000. She comes from the small southern community of Dorr, where she lives with her husband Harold and is a volunteer EMT with the area ambulance service. Robin loves pampering patients and helping them get through difficult appointments. She is the mother of three married children and has eight grand children with one on the way. Robin loves playing in her water garden, working with stained glass, spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.

Jill MacKellar- Graduated from Grand Rapids Community College in 2004 with a degree in Dental Hygiene. Jill also has a degree in Occupational Therapy. She enjoys working with children, as well as impaired or special needs patients. In Jill's spare time she loves to rollerblade, camp, and watch sporting events with her husband. Jill is expecting her first child in June 2008.
